Queen Mine Hike

  • Wednesday, October 09, 2024
  • 4:30 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Sandy Point Park Turnoff

Registration is closed

Join us for a hike to the historic Queen Mine in the Boise River Wildlife Management Area. This outing follows a rarely used trail for one mile to the mine site. The trail is overgrown, so wear pants. Also, bring a headlamp and a warm layer of clothing, as the days are getting short.

We will meet at the Turnoff to Sandy Point Park at 4:30 PM, then caravan to the trailhead from there. A high clearance vehicle is needed for the final two miles of the drive.

For those who are not able to meet us by 4:30, here are the directions from Sandy Point Turnoff:

Continue up Highway 21 for 3.5 miles to Highland Valley Ln, watch for a sign indicating an archery range. Turn left on the dirt-surface Highland Valley Ln. and follow it for 1.3 miles to the archery range. Veer right and continue up the road for another mile to a trailhead parking area that will accommodate 4 or 5 cars. Park here, then walk back down the road for about 100 yards to the start of the trail. The trail starts on the left side and is marked by an old faded trail marker (43° 34' 26", 116° 3' 40"). The trail is overgrown from lack of use. We can text a map if requested.
