Want to burn off three or four calories after Thanksgiving? Join us for a casual exploratory hike at the Oregon Trail Recreation Area.
Our primary interest will be the historic Kelton Ramp, which was carved into the canyon rimrock in the early 1860's. This ramp was used to lower freight wagons to Beaver Dick's Boise River ferry crossing.
If there is the time and interest, we will also visit a collapsed rock climbing wall in the Boise River Canyon. This site once had several popular rock climbing routes until one day the rock face gave way and fell into the canyon.
Directions to the Oregon Trail recreation area:
From I-84 take the Gowen Rd./Hwy 21 exit east toward Lucky Peak. Follow Hwy 21 for 2.5 miles to the trailhead entrance on the right.
From downtown Boise:
Take Warm Springs Blvd all the way east to the Hwy 21 intersection. Turn right and head one mile, across the bridge and up the hill, to the trailhead entrance on the left.
See you there!
